Sunburn Prevention

June 25, 2014

Protecting your skin from sun damage is important, especially if you are young. But that doesn’t mean it’s too late for you! Here are some tips and tricks on how you can help prevent sunburns and further damaging your precious skin!

  • Sunblock. Using sunblock of an SPF of 30 or more is a good way to avoid sunburns. You want a sunscreen that has both UVA and UVB protection and reapply frequently, at least every 80 minutes if in the water.
  • Avoid the sun during peak hours. The sun is at its strongest between 10 am and 2 pm leaving you more vulnerable to burn.
  • Wear the appropriate clothing. Wearing a lot of layers in the heat can be uncomfortable – so you should check out your local clothing stores to see if you can find beach friendly shirts, shorts, bathing suits etc. They should be loose, light material and cover a good amount of your skin to avoid the sun. Most people forget that their scalps can be burnt, especially those who have little to no hair on their heads, so a hat would also be a good idea to have on you at all times.

By taking the proper steps in protecting your skin, you will be preventing not only sunburns, but wrinkles, sun spots and even worse – skin cancer.
