Summer Travel Vaccinations

"

Are your summer travels taking you abroad this year? Whether it’s an African safari, a tropical beach getaway or a mountain retreat, if it’s overseas or across our border, chances are you need travel vaccinations. Travelers to third world countries are at greater risk than those who travel to developed countries, but anyone planning overseas travel should check for recommended vaccinations before their departure.
Over 1 million people travel internationally each day. In many countries, vaccine-preventable diseases are still common even though they have been eradicated in North America. For this reason, vaccinations prior to travel are important to ensure the global public health and to help individuals stay healthy during and after their travels.
Travel vaccinations vary widely depending on where you travel. At American Family Care, our physicians are familiar with what vaccinations are important for various countries and can provide you with a comprehensive list including recommended and required vaccines for your specific destination. Some of the more common travel vaccinations include:

  • Yellow Fever
  • Hepatitis A & B
  • Rabies
  • Meningococcal
  • Typhoid

Not only are travel vaccines necessary, but it’s also important to make sure you are up-to-date on your adult routine vaccinations as well such as tetanus, measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR), varicella (chickenpox) and your seasonal flu vaccine.
A physician may also recommend certain medications to take with you for other conditions that cannot be prevented through vaccination such as:

  • Traveler’s Diarrhea
  • Malaria
  • Dengue Fever
  • Motion Sickness

Visit your local AFC location, and we’ll be sure you’re prepared for anywhere your summer travels take you!
*Note – Vaccination availability is subject to location and we recommend calling ahead to inquire on specific needs or requirements.
