St. Petersburg COVID-19 Testing
St. Petersburg COVID-19 Testing at AFC Urgent Care
COVID-19 Testing is available for walk-in patients at our AFC Urgent Care St. Pete clinic. Please contact your health insurance provider about COVID-19 test coverage and consult our team about self-pay prices.
We now offer COVID-19 diagnostic testing – instant as well as lab-based – and serum antibody testing:
The SARS-CoV-2 Nucleic Amplification Diagnostic Test is done at our facility and is processed through either Quest Diagnostics or LabCorp. It is performed using respiratory specimens collected using nasal swabs. The specimen collection process is painless and takes only a few moments, with results becoming available in approximately three to five days, though wait times could be considerably longer if backups occur at the processing labs.
This test, since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, has been the gold standard for COVID-19 testing, and its accuracy and reliability are as high or higher than any other testing processes currently available.
Right now, almost all health insurers will cover 100 percent of the costs of this test, with no charges currently being passed on to patients. Uninsured patients can also receive this test without charge through a federal government program. We currently, however, are unable to offer free testing to Medicaid patients (other than Simply Healthcare).
The Abbott ID NOW Rapid Nucleic Amplification Diagnostic Test was recently approved by the FDA and is now available to the public through a few select providers. It, too, is based on nasal swab specimens and seems to be as accurate as the nucleic amplification tests that are processed through third-party labs. It is significantly more accurate than serological (blood-based) or antigen tests. In fact, the ID NOW testing equipment is being used by major league sports teams to test their athletes on a continuing basis.
Test results are available within 10 to 15 minutes and will include documentation that patients can use for travel, work, or school and for any other situations that might require current proof of non-infection.
These first two tests are molecular tests that will diagnose an active coronavirus infection. We also offer Serology Antibody Testing that very accurately shows if the patient has been infected by the coronavirus in the past, including instances of infection that were non-symptomatic. This test requires a blood sample drawn at our facility and is also processed through Quest Diagnostics or LabCorp. This test is important as it indicates a possible immunity from future COVID-19 infections, although that has not yet been proven with 100 percent certainty. Results from these tests are also generally available within three to five days. As with the Nucleic Amplification Test processed through third-party labs, the Serology Antibody Test is generally available without charge to all patients, whether insured or uninsured (except for Medicaid patients).
COVID-19 Testing: What To Expect
Diagnostic and antibody testing are available for COVID-19. Both testing procedures are safe and quick to complete.
The diagnostic test for COVID-19 is used to detect an active COVID-19 infection. During your COVID-19 diagnostic test, we’ll take a nasal swab, saliva sample, or oral swab. This sample is then sent to a lab for evaluation. You’ll receive your results within a few days of taking the test.
COVID-19 antibody testing can be used to detect a previous COVID-19 infection. Antibody testing for COVID-19 requires a blood sample, which we’ll send to a lab for evaluation. Note that a positive result for a COVID-19 antibody hasn’t been proven to provide immunity against the virus.
Prevent The Spread With COVID-19 Testing
COVID-19 testing can help reduce the spread of this highly contagious virus. By obtaining a positive result from a diagnostic test, patients can stay at home and avoid exposing others to the disease.

We offer a rapid test because they provide highly reliable results on the spot; however, they do produce more false negatives than the RT-PCR COVID-19 Test. Doing both tests is our way of ensuring that you get the most accurate results possible without having to put your life on hold.
That will ultimately depend on your insurance coverage. Presently, many people with insurance are able to get tested at no charge. If you’re uninsured, AFC’s cash pay prices are highly competitive – contact us for the details.
