How To Stay Healthy At Work (At Home Or In The Office)

May 10, 2022

Working from home or the office during the pandemic or at any other time can take a toll on you and stress your health if you’re not careful. That is why it is best to stay aware of the red flags, avoid them as much as possible, and keep your health a priority so that you will be strong enough (mentally, emotionally, and physically) to perform best in your work. These are ten 5 ways you can work towards remaining healthy even while working either from home or the office.

1.     Place a plate of fruit salad near your workspace

It is a common practice to chew something while working. Most people opt for gum, candies, and other bad sugar snacks. However, to stay healthy, switch those candies for a healthy snack like fruit salad. Mix different fruits like watermelon, cherries, strawberries, grapes, apples, and so on. This way, your brain stays alert from keeping your mouth busy and you are nourishing your body with vitamins.

2.     Take water breaks

Pee breaks are quite common but what about water breaks? Taking breaks in-between work to drink water is a good way to stay hydrated. Many people work for long hours and forget to drink water. This leaves their bodies dehydrated and causes more health complications.

3.     Stand up and walk around

Remaining seated for too long can take a toll on your body’s posture and stamina. Ensure that you stand up every once in a while to walk around and stretch your muscles. This also helps to destress, keep the brain alert, and refreshed. Another benefit of moving around is so to avoid Tension Neck Syndrome, also referred to as TNS. Commonly predominant in people that have had their neck fixed uncomfortably for too long.

4.     Keep a good distance between you and the screen

If you have to work with a computer or a phone, try keeping a good distance between the screen of the device and your eyes. Eye strain is caused by too much exposure to the screen of a computer or a phone and it causes increased sensitivity to natural light and headaches.

5.     Take required breaks from work

Different from pee and water breaks, as a worker, you also need to take vacations. Consistent work over a long time causes burnout and this can cause stress, anxiety, and other strain on your emotional or mental well-being. Whether you work from home or not, for an employer or yourself, make space for a vacation once every three, six, or twelve months. Your brain will be able to recuperate, and you would be able to set your mind to other things that help you relax.

Consider visiting an urgent care center for illness symptoms

Consider these health and wellness skills for workplaces: drinking plenty of fluids, limiting snacks, taking breaks with limited to no screen time, and reducing burnout with stress management skills. Also, if you’re going back to work, or have recently traveled somewhere, then get a COVID-19 test to remain safe both at work and at home.
