A big topic in today’s society is weight management. What is underweight & what is overweight? In the media today we are seeing a lot more acceptable to many different body types. Models used to be viewed as extremely skinny (unhealthily Skinny) people & this started a trend of people trying to achieve this almost impossible figure. Today we have models that are average size & plus size models. This is leaving a lot of people questioning what the right size to be is? In this article, we will be giving tips on weight management & explaining how to find the healthy weight you should be.

What weight should I be?

There are many calculators online to find out what weight you should be, however, for the best result you should go to your nearest doctor/Provider & get the correct stats for yourself. Every person is different, so healthy weights can differ. Weight is described as underweight, healthy weight & overweight. Your height, age & sex have an impact on the healthy weight you should be to keep your body functioning correctly. For example, a 5’6 male should be at 118-154lbs to be considered in a healthy weight range. The reason why going to a doctor is so important because a person who is athletic or bodybuilding may weight more than the suggested weight but won’t be considered overweight due to their BMI being low.  If a person weight more than the recommended weight but they have no body fat, they are technically not obese.

How to lose weight

Back in the day, most people thought if you wanted to lose weight all you had to do was to stop eating. This is not true if you do not have a medical condition which makes it hard for you to lose weight; the last thing you want to do is to stop eating. When you stop eating or eat low amounts of food per day, your body will go into starvation mode. This means your body will take any food you give it & transfer it into fat to keep your body alive. So, unfortunately, eating no food can actually have negative consequences. The best thing to do is to give yourself 3 healthy meals a day that is low in fats & high in proteins & clean carbs. Talk to your local Provider for more in-depth plans on healthy foods to eat.
