We Had an Amazing Time Helping at This Year’s Inspiring Relay for Life

"

Since its inauguration in 1985, Relay for Life has helped raise $5 billion towards the American Cancer Society, which helps fund cancer research among a number of other noble efforts. Volunteers will walk around a track and camp out, sometimes for days at a time, while friends, families and generous members of the community will donate money.

The money donated during Relay for Life events goes to:

  • Cancer Treatment Research
  • Early Detection Programs
  • Fundraising Efforts
  • Patient and Community Support Programs

This year, we had the privilege of helping support this year’s North Andover Relay for Life held at North Andover High School on Saturday, March 18th.  We donated a vast quantity of water bottles to help the volunteers going to reach the goal of raising $35,000. Due to the tremendous turnout and generosity of the North Andover community, this year’s Relay for Life ended up shattering its goal by raising over $47,000.

This year’s event featured:

  • The Survivor Lap, which commences the start of the event
  • The Opening Lap, when all members circle the track
  • Luminaria Ceremony – the candlelight vigil that commemorates those who have died from cancer
  • The Closing Ceremony – the end of the event, where certain teams are awarded for most money raised and laps taken

On behalf of all of us here at AFC Urgent Care North Andover, we’re incredibly proud of the North Andover community and everyone who relayed together to help make this year’s Relay for Life nothing short of inspirational. We look forward to helping this fantastic charity again next year!
