Spring Sports Injuries

Spring sports have started for local students including high schools and colleges. If you are participating in any of these sports, here are some tips to avoiding injury.

Prior to participating, there are some steps you should take to prepare yourself. If you have been inactive for quite some time, it is important to condition your body before heavy physical activity. Prepare with light to moderate physical activity to work your way up. It is also a good idea to receive a physical before starting any fitness program, sports included. These are often times required, but in the instance where it is not, it is a good idea to still receive one. The Provider can screen for any potential existing issues as well as pinpoint any possible future issues.

While training for and participating in your sports, make sure to carry on a healthy balanced diet as well as remain hydrated. Bodies that are dehydrated or do not have sufficient nutrition can be more prone to injury. Make sure not to eat in the hours leading up to a game or practice, at least two to three. This can reduce possible digestive issues.
