Common symptoms of conjunctivitis (pink eye) are:

  • Redness or swelling of the eye
  • Increased tears
  • Discharge from the eye
  • Itchy or burning eyes
  • Crusting of eyelids

Pink eye is caused by a virus, bacteria, allergens, or irritants. Depending on the cause, there are different treatments for conjunctivitis. When mid, pink eye often gets better on its own but those with pink eye should still consult a doctor. If it is possibly due to an allergic reaction, allergy medications or allergy eye drops.

To prevent the spread of pink eye, wash your hands constantly and avoid touching eyes. Disinfect any surface which has come in contact with someone who has pink eye. Also, avoid sharing of contact lenses, eye makeup, or eyeglasses.
