Is COVID-19 Still in the Statesville Area?

We have certainly experienced quite a lot as a community over the last few years. The unease, frustration and worry we all endured during the pandemic took a toll on us all. Now that the emergency status for COVID-19 has expired, it can be easy to let our guards down.

Unfortunately, we can’t do that! COVID-19 is still circulating around the country and cases are rising yet again in the Statesville area.

We want you to stay as healthy as possible this season, so our AFC Urgent Care Statesville team refreshes your memory about all things COVID-19 below so you can be prepared.

Can the Current COVID-19 Variant Make Me Sick?

COVID-19 is constantly mutating and changing, like all viruses do. This is why you can still get COVID-19 this season even if you have already had it. You have to exercise caution no matter what because even if the first infection didn’t make you very sick, this next one might cause serious symptoms.

Getting tested early is still really important. The current COVID-19 variants are incredibly contagious and can spread around populations really fast. Being tested can give you the information you need to isolated and avoid crowded areas. It can also help you find treatments faster! Antiviral drug treatments are available now but work best when taken right at your symptom onset.

COVID-19 Symptoms That Are Common This Year

Can I Get Vaccinated Against COVID-19?

You bet you can! As of mid-September, the recommendation is for everyone to get a dose of the newly reformulated vaccine, even if you have received previous doses. This will offer the best protection against new strains of the coronavirus as they emerge.

In addition to getting your vaccine, wash your hands thoroughly, avoid large crowds and carry hand sanitizer with you wherever you go. Eat well, drink water and get plenty of sleep to support a healthier immune system during the fall and winter months.

Dangerous COVID-19 Symptoms

  • Respiratory distress
  • Persistent chest pain or pressure
  • Confusion
