Finding a good nutrition plan is a challenge. With busy schedules and tight budgets, it’s easy to see an excuse for your poor eating habits, but it’s time to change that! 2019 is the first year that celebrates national nutrition month. That’s right – a whole month dedicated to spreading nutrition tips and tricks with the public! To kick off this healthy new addition, check out some of our favorite nutrition advice.

Don’t Drink Calories

Many people don’t realize how many calories they drink each day. From sweet coffees to vending machine soda, you could be packing on the pound just from what your drink. The worst part of drinking those calories is that they leave you feeling just as hungry as you were before you drank them! Next time you have the urge to grab a sugar-filled drink, grab a glass of water instead. Drink the pool, enjoy a healthy snack, and see if you still have the urge to drink such an unhealthy option.

Stick to Whole Foods

Processed foods are more readily available to us than ever before. As a general rule,

processed foods should be avoided. Even those claiming to be healthy and organic still contain additives and preservatives that your body doesn’t need. Whole, natural foods are much more nutrient-rich and filling. Whole foods don’t just mean fruits and vegetables though! Enjoy whole grains, nuts, and any other foods that haven’t been heavily processed. At first, you may find the lack of processed foods to be a challenge. That’s because the additives and preservatives used have been shown to have addictive properties. The good news? Those cravings will soon be replaced with the craving for healthy whole foods!

Embrace Herbs and Spices

As you begin to eat healthier, you may fear to add anything into your natural foods. While heavy sauces and butter should be avoided, there’s nothing wrong with adding in some herbs and spices! In fact, many spices have been linked to health benefits. For instance, ginger and turmeric are both shown to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant-rich properties to them. Explore different spices to discover what flavors you enjoy the most. You may be surprised to learn that they have positive impacts on your health and your flavor palette!
Nutrition is a process. That means that these positive changes require consistency and longevity to be effective. It may be tempting to resort to your old ways, but just think about how much better your body feels when you lead a nutritious lifestyle!
