AFC Urgent Care Southcenter is now offering COVID-19 diagnostic swab testing to provide patients who have recently exhibited symptoms of the novel coronavirus and are in need of an accurate diagnosis. Our urgent care center is offering the Becton Dickinson antigen test, a rapid swab test that takes moments to perform and detects the active virus in mere minutes. Swab testing is the most effective way to get an accurate diagnosis. AFC Urgent Care Southcenter performs COVID-19 testing by appointment only six days a week. Symptoms Of Covid-19:

There are a wide range of symptoms associated with COVID-19, with cases ranging from asymptomatic or mild to severe. The virus can be transmitted through direct contact with a person who has been exposed and infected with COVID-19 or through Community Spread, which is when a patient is unsure of where they came into contact with the virus. Because the virus is so widespread, patients often do not know when they were initially exposed. Symptoms of COVID-19 may include:

• High fever (over 102 F) that will not break or consistent chills
• Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
• Dry, persistent cough
• Sudden and recent loss of smell and/or taste
• Chest and nasal congestion
• Nausea and vomiting
• Headache and full body ache
• Fatigue
• Sore throat
• Diarrhea

How Is The Covid-19 Test Performed?

The COVID-19 rapid test is performed by taking a gentle swab of the lower nasal cavity. The swab is inserted through your nostril and only takes a few moments to complete. The test is painless to the patient, and the staff member taking the sample will be fully protected in a gown, gloves, mask and face shield.

Once the test is completed, the sample is brought to our on-site lab, where it is placed into a specialized machine that only performs the COVID-19 rapid test.

The sample is combined with a chemical mixture that breaks down the virus and exposes its genetic material, which is replicated against targeted molecules to detect the active virus. We will be able to provide you with results the same day. Masks are required when you visit AFC Urgent Care Southcenter for testing.
