Unpredictable, yet completely avoidable, the best way to protect you and your family from the flu is to get vaccinated. The flu causes over 36,000 deaths every year, making it that more important for you to be vaccinated.

  • What is the flu? The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by the influenza virus. It can cause mild to severe illness, causing hospitalizations and death. Some symptoms include fever, cough, headaches, fatigue and body aches.
  • Who should be vaccinated? All persons aged 6 months and older should get the flu vaccine each year. Children under the age of 5, pregnant women, the elderly and anyone who suffers from chronic medical conditions are at high risk for serious flu complications, so these people should be especially vigilant about getting vaccinated. Children younger than 6 months or people with severe allergies to the vaccine should not get the flu shot.
  • When is it most common? Flu season typically starts in October and will last until late May. The shot becomes available around September/October.
  • Why should I get vaccinated? You should get vaccinated every year because with each new year, comes a new virus. Your shot from last year will not fight off the virus from this year, so plan on yearly vaccinations for you and your family.
