Strep Throat

"

Strep throat is a common infection among school aged children ages 5-15, but it is not limited to children. Strep Throat, or its technical name Streptococcal Pharyngitis, is an infection that affects the tonsils and throat.

Main symptoms include a sore throat, swollen tonsils and lymph nodes and a fever. If you experience any of these symptoms, a doctor can perform a throat culture or rapid antigen test to diagnose you. Treatment for strep is typically a course of antibiotics. Always make sure to take all pills prescribed to you, even if you feel better. To alleviate the soreness symptoms and fever, an over the counter pain reliever and fever reducer may be used.

AFC Urgent Care can test for and treat strep throat in our offices. We have an on-site lab to assist with testing. We are open 7 days a week and extended hours to fit your schedule. Visit us at 376 Arsenal St in Watertown or call 617-923-2273.
