Sinusitis occurs when the tissue within the sinuses becomes inflamed. Blocked sinuses causes infection due to fluid and germs caught in the sinuses. Common symptoms of this are pain in the face area, stuffiness, congestion, and a runny nose.
Sinusitis is diagnosed with an examination. Typically, the doctor may push on the sinus area to test for tenderness.
Symptoms can be alleviated with use of a humidifier or by applying a warm washcloth to the face. Pain relievers may be used as well. While antibiotics are not necessary, they may be prescribed in different circumstances.
