15 Fruits and Vegetables You Can Begin Planting Now

March 10, 2016

In recent years, genetically modified organisms (GMO’s), preservatives and additives have dominated the conversation surrounding our nation’s food consumption. The meteoric rise of natural food markets illustrates the increased attentiveness our country now directs towards our foods. Many health organizations assert that foods containing preservatives or additives increase consumers’ chances to develop a number of different of life-threatening health conditions, including pancreatic cancer.

A general rule of thumb in figuring out what foods aren’t rich in preservatives or additives is determining whether or not they’re local. If food is coming from a supplier in your general vicinity, it probably means they aren’t using preservatives. A fun and easy way to increase your consumption of local foods is to start your own garden. While it’d be incredibly difficult to only eat the foods that you planted yourself, complementing your meals with your homegrown fruits and vegetables can be a delicious and healthy cost-cutting measure.

Considering March is National Nutrition Month, now’s a great time to get your spring started off on the right foot. Coincidentally, March is also the best time to plant a number of different fruits and vegetables, including:
