A kidney Infection is a type of urinary tract infection caused by a bacteria that generally begins in your urethra or bladder and travels to one or both of the kidneys. They can be sudden or chronic.

Common causes of Kidney Infections:

It could be caused by a bacteria from an infection somewhere else in your body, like from an artificial joint, that spreads to the kidneys through your bloodstream. It could be the result of the surgery of the bladder or kidneys. The infection could be something blocking urine flow, such as a kidney stone or tumor in your urinary tract, an enlarged prostate in men, or a problem with the shape of your urinary tract.

Symptoms of Kidney Infections:

  • Pain in the back, abdomen, back, groin 
  • Pungent urine or urine with a strange odor
  • Chills, Fever 
  • Frequent urination 
  • Nausea, Vomiting 
  • Burning sensation or pain when urinating 
  • Nausea and vomiting 
  • Loss of appetite

Food Options for Limiting, Reducing Kidney Infections:

Diet low in sodium, phosphorous calcium, potassium. The following veggies and fruits are good: 

  • Apples
  • Cranberries
  • Strawberries
  • blueberries
  • raspberries
  • Plums
  • Pineapples
  • Cabbage
  • Boiled cauliflower

At-home symptom relief for Kidney Infections

  • Using heat pad might help in reducing the pain. 
  • Over the counter medicine like Tylenol might give relief.) 
  • Drinking 6-8 eight-ounce glasses of water a day is good. This will help flush out the bacteria in the urinary tract.

Make an appointment with your doctor if you have worrisome signs or symptoms.
