COVID-19 Antibody Testing

COVID-19 Antibody Testing and Serology Testing

>AFC Urgent Care Thornton offers COVID-19 Antibody Testing and Serology Testing for Patients

>Patients who may have been previously exposed to COVID-19 can be tested for antibodies for the virus at AFC Urgent Care Thornton. Antibody testing can help detect past infection with the novel coronavirus and determine if you have any immunity to reinfection. In order to get testing at AFC Urgent Care Thornton, patients must visit our walk-in urgent care center.

What is antibody testing and how does it work?

>Antibody testing is a blood test that can detect the presence of antibodies, which develop after an infection has healed. Patients who are tested for coronavirus antibodies must be asymptomatic for at least two weeks before testing. If antibodies are detected, the patient has been exposed to COVID-19 and carries the virus. Antibody testing helps states ensure an accurate count of COVID-19 cases and can help doctors and scientists develop both a way to protect patients from contracting the virus as well as a potential cure. Test results are typically available in 1-3 days.

If I have previously tested positive for COVID-19, can I get tested for antibodies?

>Yes. However, you will need to wait at least two weeks after your most recent positive swab test to be tested for COVID-19 antibodies.

What do the results of my antibody test mean?

>A positive antibody test result indicates exposure and past infection with COVID-19. The infection has healed and you will likely have some form of immunity. However, the length and extent of the immunity is still unknown, with scientists and global health organizations including the CDC still conducting research.

>A negative antibody test result indicates no past exposure or infection with COVID-19.
