In recognition of this month, our team at AFC Urgent Care Sevierville wants you to know how you can better care for your bladder health, as well as foods you should skip when it comes to avoiding irritating your bladder.

What Is the Bladder?

The bladder is a small sac that stores urine. It’s located in the pelvis, just behind the pelvic bone.

The muscular walls of the bladder help contain urine until it’s time to be removed from the body.

Ways to Keep Your Bladder Healthy

  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Limit caffeine intake.
  • Quit smoking.
  • Avoid constipation.
  • Keep a healthy weight.
  • Exercise regularly.
  • Do pelvic floor muscle exercises.
  • Use the bathroom when you need to.

What Can Irritate Your Bladder?

There are a number of foods that can cause irritation to your bladder, such as coffee, tea, carbonated drinks, alcohol and even spicy foods.

Therefore, if you feel your bladder is irritated, it is best to try and avoid these items to prevent making your condition worse. On the other hand, there are also certain foods that can help soothe bladder irritation.
