This summer Worcester Massachusetts has been reported as the 2nd most tick-borne diseases cases in Massachusetts! AFC Urgent Care Worcester is here it gives you some pointers on how to stay away from the ticks this summer! Ticks are seasonal insects that attach onto to skin and basically take out blood overtime to feed themselves. As scary as this sounds, ticks are not difficult to prevent or get removed. If you find a tick on your body, come to AFC Urgent Care Worcester to remove the tick immediately, ticks are known to carry many diseases such as:

  • Lyme Disease
  • Anaplasmosis
  • Babesiosis
  • Ehrlichiosis
  • Rocky Mountain Fever
  • Tularemia

Tick removal process

If you find a tick on yourself or your child please bring them into AFC Urgent Care Worcester for proper removal. The tick removal procedure is:

  • First, our medical care provider will apply alcohol to the infected area if on the skin/body
  • Our medical Care provider will use a sterile tool to grab the tick by the roots as close as to the skin as possible
  • After our medical care provider removes all parts of the tick, they will put alcohol over the infected area once more & give a band-aid
  • It is important you let the wound heal

We do not recommend you try to remove ticks on your own. If you do not remove the entire tick you are leaving an open wound vulnerable to the diseases that tick may have been carrying.  If you find a tick the proper ways to dispose of it are:

  • Put a live tick in a cup of alcohol
  • flush down toilet
  • Put the tick in a ziplock bag then dispose of it in the garbage outside

What you shouldn’t do

  • Throw tick away
  • Dispose of tick anywhere in the house
  • Leave roots in the wound
  • Crush the tick

For any more questions on our tick removal procedure please feel free to call us at 508.755.4010!

With state-of-the-art centers and a professional medical team, AFC provides on-site X-rays, labs, procedures, and more!

  • What's the difference between AFC Urgent Care and emergency room services?

Urgent care is for medical conditions that require prompt attention but do not pose an immediate threat to your health or life. Here is a simple rule of thumb: if your medical issues(s) are life threatening, call 911, or go directly to a hospital emergency room. If not, an urgent care center such as AFC is an excellent alternative.
