Frequently Asked Questions about COVID

Frequently Asked Questions about COVID

Visit AFC Urgent Care Saugus for both rapid and antibody COVID testing today.

What are COVID-19 symptoms?

Symptoms of COVID are different for every patient. Some cases do not experience symptoms at all, and others can be very severe. Signs of COVID can include:

  • Fever or chills
  • Body or muscle aches
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Fatigue
  • Sore throat
  • Headache

Be sure to monitor symptoms throughout the duration of illness. If a patient beings to have trouble breathing or has new confusion, a visit to the emergency room may be required.

How long is the quarantine process?

If a patient tests positive for COVID, the CDC recommends quarantining for 10 days after symptoms began and there is no fever for 24 hours. The quarantine process includes no contact with others that do not live in your household, unless it is a medical emergency.

If a patient tests negative, they do not need to quarantine as long as they are not experiencing symptoms. It is also recommended to get tested at least 5 days after exposure in order to get the most accurate reading.

How to prevent getting COVID

COVID is spread through respiratory droplets from close contact with others, so the best way to avoid getting it is by wearing a mask and maintaining a distance of six feet. Additionally, wash your hands frequently and especially before eating to avoid infection.

What testing is available at AFC Urgent Care Saugus?

AFC Saugus provides rapid testing and antibody testing to all patients on a walk-in basis. Appointments are not available at this time.

Rapid COVID testing detects active strains of the virus. Rapid tests are available for asymptomatic or patients that are experiencing symptoms. A sample is collected through a nasal swab that is analyzed in our on-site lab. From there, results will be available before the end of your appointment.

Antibody testing provides information for patients who may have previously had COVID-19. This test does not detect active cases of COVID. Antibody tests are completed through blood work and patients must be asymptomatic for 14 days to be eligible. Results are available within a few days.

Frequently Asked Questions About COVID FAQs

  • Why choose AFC for Urgent Care?

With state-of-the-art centers and a professional medical team, AFC provides on-site X-rays, labs, procedures, and more!

  • What's the difference between AFC Urgent Care and emergency room services?

Urgent care is for medical conditions that require prompt attention but do not pose an immediate threat to your health or life. Here is a simple rule of thumb: if your medical issues(s) are life threatening, call 911, or go directly to a hospital emergency room. If not, an urgent care center such as AFC is an excellent alternative.
