What Stds Can I Get Tested For?

Getting tested can be quick and easy. Depending on what sexually transmitted disease you are being tested for, your healthcare provider may take a swab, a blood sample, or a urine sample. An STD test can test for the following infections:

What Happens During An Std Test?

Swabs are used to test for gonorrhea and chlamydia, although you can also test for chlamydia and gonorrhea with a urine test. If you’ve got a current outbreak, swabs also can be used for herpes, and also to diagnose trichomoniasis. During a swab, your health care provider will use an extended Q-tip-like swab to require a minute sample of fluid from either your vagina, throat, or anus, contingent on which area of your body is probably going to possess an STI. During a blood test, a health care provider will use a tiny needle to take a small vial of blood from your arm. As this sample is then sent to a lab for testing, you will not receive your results immediately. The only exception to the present is with Rapid Point-of-Care HIV testing, where a health care provider will prick your finger, take a small sample of blood, and provides you your test results on the spot, usually in about a quarter-hour. Not all clinics offer this sort of testing, so it’s best to call ahead and check.

How Long Does It Take To Get My Std Test Results Back?

The length of time which it takes to receive your test results depends on the type of test. A urine test typically takes around a week, whereas a blood test can take a few weeks. Swab tests usually take around two to three days.
