VA Community Care Urgent Care in Portland, OR
Under the VA MISSION Act, eligible veterans can get urgent care at authorized in-network clinics, including AFC Urgent Care Portland, without a prior VA authorization.

What Is Covered for Eligible Veterans
The program covers urgent care for injuries and illnesses that need prompt attention but are not life-threatening, including:
- Flu-like symptoms
- Strep throat
- Minor burns
- Pink eye
- Ear and skin infections
- Diagnostic x-rays and lab testing
- Urgent medications
- Other common urgent care visits
What Is Not Covered
A few preventive services are excluded from the urgent care benefit:
- Annual wellness visits
- Depression screenings
- Health risk assessments
- Advance care planning
- Preventive medicine and counseling
- Behavior change intervention
- Pneumococcal vaccines
- Shingles (zoster) vaccines
How to Use Your VA Benefit at AFC
1. Check in
Tell our front desk you are a veteran using VA Community Care. Have your date of birth, the last 4 digits of your SSN, your VA medical center and home address ready.
2. We confirm eligibility
Our staff calls TriWest at 1-833-4VETNOW (1-833-483-8669) to confirm your eligibility, then you are seen by a provider.
3. We handle the rest
Your provider can prescribe up to a 14-day supply if needed. We send your records to your VA medical center and submit the claim for you.
