Strep Throat, or in technical terms, streptococcal pharyngitis, is an infection in the tonsils and larynx. This is a common illness in children ages 5 – 15.

The main symptom is a sore throat. Keep in mind though, not all sore throats are strep throat. This main symptom is also accompanies by swollen tonsils, swollen lymph nodes, and a fever. To diagnose, a doctor will order a throat culture or rapid strep test.

Strep throat can be cured with antibiotic. Make sure to take all antibiotic prescribed even if you feel better. To alleviate symptoms, you may use a pain reliever.
