Save yourself from sunburn!

We here at AFC Urgent Care hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful summer we have been having! However, we would also like to remind everyone how to stay safe from sunburn while still having some fun in the sun!

What is sunburn Exactly?

The sun emits 3 ultraviolet rays:

  • UVA
  • UVB
  • UVC

Only 2 of these rays make it through earth’s atmosphere, (UVA, UVB). The UV rays are radiation, and our skin has a tolerance for how much radiation it can withstand. Evey person is different, some can withstand more UV rays than others. However, everyone will get sunburn eventually if standing in the sun on a summer day unprotected.

Sun Burn Symptoms

Everyone has experienced acute sunburn at some point in their life, symptoms include,

  • Redness on skin
  • Tender to the touch on the burned area
  • dehydration
  • Peeling

These symptoms can be treated with a lotion mixed with Aloe Vera for the pain.  Keeping your body cool on burned areas will also help the pain.

If you have symptoms of :

  • Nasua
  • Fatigue
  • Heart rate increase
  • Blackout
  • Sun blisters

You should come down to AFC Urgent Care immediately because these symptoms are caused by severe sunburn. If untreated the burn could result in a lot of pain & even death.

How to beat sunburn!

The easiest way to beat sunburn is to remember to bring sunblock! When at the beach, tanning, or just having fun in the sun remember to apply sunblock every 15-20 mins. Sweat & water washes of sunblock even faster so don’t forget to also apply after getting out of the water!
