Whether it’s a small cut or an non life threatnening laceration, any open wound could severely affect your health. It is critical to treat all gashes, no matter the size, with great importance and an understanding of the possibility of infection. If you think that your cut isn’t worth a trip to AFC Urgent Care you should follow these steps to help prevent infection:

  1. Stop the bleeding
  2. Clean the wound with hot water and soap
  3. Apply an antibiotic ointment
  4. Protect the area with a sterile bandage

You should repeat these steps until the wound has scabbed over or healed completely. If, however, your laceration is more serious you should go to AFC Urgent Care immediately for proper medical treatment. Here are some examples of when it would be necessary to go to AFC Urgent Care:

  1. The cut is deep
  2. The bleeding won’t stop
  3. You cannot get the wound clean
  4. If the patient might need a tetanus shot
  5. The injury is a from a human or animal bite

If any of these caused your injury, make sure you take a trip to AFC Urgent Care as soon as you can where we can properly diagnose and treat your laceration.
