November is coming to a close & that means the holiday season is officially here! The holiday season is the most beautiful time of the year. Allergies are the last thing that someone wants to be dealing with while they are home for the holidays with loved ones & family members. AFC Urgent Care Bound Brook is here to offer you some tips on how to keep your allergies in check this holiday season & hopefully for all allergy season from now on.

Stay ahead of the game

If you suffer from seasonal allergies, then you know what time of the year your symptoms start to show up. A good tip is to start taking your allergy medicine at least 2 weeks before your symptoms begin to show up. This will help lessen the effects of the allergies when they come because your body will already have that extra protection or it might save you from your symptoms even starting. If your allergies have already begun to, don’t worry just take your medicine as already prescribed & keep this tip in mind for the next season.

Get ahold of Mold

If you find yourself only getting allergies inside of your house or you feel your allergies get wors inside your home, then you should check to see if your home has mold. Mold can grow in any space that is warm & moist. Those hard to clean areas that you tend to overlook may come back to haunt you if shape starts to grow in its place. Constant exposure to mold can lead to some severe health problems down the line. Some places where you can find mold are:

  • In the bathroom near the sink
  • Around water heater/cooler in the basement
  • Near toilet/ behind the shower
  • By refrigerator
  • in corners of the ceiling

By checking these spots periodically during the winter, you could find a way to stop your symptoms.

Ragweed

Ragweed is found in trees, bushes, & most outdoor things around the winter months. Most allergies that have to do in the winter are because of ragweed. An excellent way to stay away from ragweed is to keep it outside. This means you should keep your shoes at the door when you walk in your house. If you have a pet, then you should wipe them down when they get in the house after you take them for walks, so they don’t track ragweed in your home!
