AFC Urgent Care Mission Valley is now able to offer the Abbott ID NOW COVID-19 rapid diagnostic test for patients who may have been exposed to the virus. The Abbott ID NOW rapid test is classified as an Nucleic Acid Amplification (NAA) test, but may also be listed as an LAMP or NEAR test. The rapid test is considered a NAA molecular test, providing more accurate results than the antigen test that many of our local competitors offer. The rapid test allows our staff to provide patients with results the same day as they are tested, rather than waiting 2-4 days for standard NAA testing results. Results will be provided via email. The ID NOW test is awaiting FDA approval but is available under Emergency Use Authorization (EUA). Rapid testing is available by appointment only. Based on advice from most authorities, patients who have been exposed to the virus should wait between 3-7 days after initial exposure to get tested in order to avoid a false negative and receive a more accurate result.
If you have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for the virus or are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, you should schedule an appointment for the rapid test. Symptoms may include:
Masks or face coverings worn over the nose and mouth are required for patients visits at AFC Urgent Care Mission Valley. Your mask should only be lowered when asked by a medical provider in order to collect the swab sample. The process only takes a few short moments and is painless, though the patient may exhibit mild discomfort. After the swab is collected, the sample is brought to our on-site laboratory where it is processed and analyzed.
The test itself is performed in our on-site laboratoryby combining the sample and a specific mix of chemicals in a machine designed to only detect the active COVID-19 virus. The chemicals break down the sample and expose the genetic material of the virus if present, detecting it in the sample. The results are displayed on the device’s screen, printed and brought to our front desk, where someone will email you that day,
By getting the rapid test, you will be able to receive your results the same day as you visit our center. Getting your results as quickly as possible allows you to adjust your behavior accordingly based on what the test says. If your test comes back positive, you will need to begin self-isolating immediately and should prepare to be in quarantine for at least 10 days, until you are no longer contagious. If you have a negative test result, you should continue to follow local and CDC healthcare guidelines including washing your hands frequently, wearing a mask in public and practicing social distancing.
Schedule an appointment with AFC Urgent Care Mission Valley for rapid COVID-19 diagnostic testing today. Our center accepts appointments seven days a week and offers standard NAA testing. Most major insurance plans are accepted. Patients interested in getting the rapid test for COVID-19 should click here to schedule an appointment.
We offer a rapid test because they provide highly reliable results on the spot; however, they do produce more false negatives than the RT-PCR COVID-19 Test. Doing both tests is our way of ensuring that you get the most accurate results possible without having to put your life on hold.
We're able to get many patients in and out in a matter of minutes, but the length of time you'll spend in our clinic will depend on wait times that day.
That will ultimately depend on your insurance coverage. Presently, many people with insurance are able to get tested at no charge. If you’re uninsured, AFC’s cash pay prices are highly competitive – contact us for the details.
