Where can I get STD testing?

You can get an STD test done at your primary care physician’s office or even at the ER (emergency room), but these options aren’t very convenient, especially considering that you’d probably like the results very soon. With an urgent care clinic like ours, though, you can walk in for a test and get the results right away, same-day. Urgent care is the much better option for STD testing.

Some STDs have no symptoms, so even if you don’t think you have an STD, you may still benefit from testing or asking about testing. The sooner you get tested and get your results, the sooner you’ll know whether you have an STD and what to do about it. If it turns out that you do have an STD, an urgent care doctor can treat it right away so it won’t cause any health problems like infertility or other serious problems, and then help you take measures to prevent spreading the STD.

Also, at AFC Urgent Care Bradenton, we’re bound by confidentiality rules which means we have to be and will be very private about your results. We’re also very understanding with our patients.

What happens during an STD test?

At an urgent care clinic like ours, the doctors can test for HIV/AIDS, HPV, herpes, syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and other STDs/STIs. Depending on what we need to test for, we may need to do a urine test, a cheek swab, a simple blood test, or a similar test.

With a urine test, a patient simply urinates into a cup, then the sample is tested for an STD. With the cheek swab, you just rub the inside of your cheek with a soft swab, or with a blood test, we simply draw blood then test it. STD tests are simple and easy for the patient, as all that’s necessary is for the patient to provide a sample. After, we test the sample with our in-house lab. We won’t have to send your sample out to another clinic for testing, and we’ll be able to provide results very soon.

How long does it take to get my STD test results back?

At AFC Urgent Care Bradenton, our testing is very quick, so there’s a very good chance your results will be available same-day! When they’re available, we’ll notify you so you. And because we’re bound by HIPAA confidentiality regulations, you can be sure we will not make your results available to anyone other than you unless we have your permission.

After testing, if you need a prescription medication, we can provide it, and we can even offer safe-sex practice education too.
