Carving pumpkins is something the whole family should enjoy to really get into the spooky spirit. However, Carbing pumpkins still involve a knife & some other sharp accessories! Read more to make sure your pumpkin carking goes safely.
Make sure to clean everything
When its time to carve a pumpkin, you should want to make sure that the area that you are going to be working in is nice & clean. Accidents tend to happen when you are working in a dirty area or example: If you are carving a pumpkin on a slippery table or have a knife in your hand while walking over objects you could slip or trip & seriously injure yourself. After your surrounding is clean make sure to wash hands. We know this can prove to be a challenge when carving a pumpkin because the insides get everywhere, however having dirty & slippery hands can lead to you dropping sharp objects.
Don’t Sharpen your knives!
It is a common misconception that sharpening your knives before carving a pumpkin would be safer because it can get straight through easier. However this is not the case, an extra sharp knife is just as dangerous as a dull knife in this situation. A lot of us are not familiar with the density of a pumpkin & we can slice right through & hit a finger, hand or wrist. If a knife gets stuck in a pumpkin remember to take it out slowly & not in a forceful manner because that can lead to further injury.

The easiest way to make sure you have the proper tools for carving a pumpkin is to buy one! A pumpkin carving kit will come with tools that are made specifically for carving & will be a lot safer to use than some knives from home. Some kits even come with stencils for children!
