Why a Full Medical Evaluation Matters
Health officials recommend a complete medical evaluation alongside COVID-19 testing. If a COVID-19 test result is negative, symptoms may be caused by another underlying condition that still requires treatment. If the test result is positive, patients may have complications such as low oxygen levels or fluid in the lungs without realizing it.
As noted by a New York City emergency room physician during the height of the pandemic, COVID-19 pneumonia can develop before patients feel short of breath. Oxygen levels may drop dangerously low before noticeable symptoms appear, making early evaluation and monitoring essential.
