New Year New You

Did you know that most people who set new year’s resolutions abandon them by the end of February? Considering the amount of time and energy people put into making those resolutions, it’s sad to realize most of them never meet their goal. The reason for that could be because people aim to change too much about themselves physically, and not enough mentally. Instead of focusing on weight loss or breaking bad habits, follow these easy steps that will improve your state of mind. Improve the mind, and the body will follow!

Live and Let Live

If you’ve had a breakup, argument with a family member, or falling out with a friend in recent years, it’s time to move on. Take a step back to consider your wrongs in certain situations and then begin apologizing and making amends for those actions. By opening the door of communication, you’ll likely start receiving apologies in return too. Forgiveness is the key to moving on and freeing yourself of the weight of bad relationships. Just because you forgive doesn’t mean you have to forget the actions that took place, but you’ll be able to move forward in the new year with nothing holding you back.

Set Daily Goals

Setting attainable goals is the key to new year’s resolutions. Instead, those goals are physical or mental, little by little they will begin to have a significant impact on your health. Some attainable goals to set are:

  • Walking 10,000 steps per day
  • Drinking a liter of water per day (and then 2!)
  • Meditating each day

Keeping a journal of your feelings and what caused them

Once you see success day after day, you’ll be more likely to continue these positive habits moving forward. Setting a goal to lose 50 pounds will lead to discouragement when it doesn’t happen quickly, but daily goals give you instant gratification!
If you need help getting motivated or you want to share the excitement, invite a friend to join you. Many fitness and step tracking apps can invite friends and share your progress each day. Go buy refillable water bottles and cute journals together to get excited about your new goals. Instead of going out for dinner with your friend, go on a walk around a park. Before you know it, it will be January 2020, and you’ll have a year of positive habit forming behind you!
