DOT Physicals in Beverly at AFC Urgent Care

Federal guidelines require that applicants for a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) & current CDL holders pass the Department of Transportation (DOT) physical exam every 2 years. The examination is performed by one of our board-certified providers &  comprised of a review of your medical history, urinalysis, measurement of your height, weight, blood pressure, & heart rate, as well as a check of your lung, vision, and hearing function. Ultimately, the goal of this exam is to determine if the patient is physically capable of driving safely at the present time as well as in the near future.  

The requirements for the DOT physical examination include:

• 20/40 vision in each eye & with both eyes combined, with or without correction.
• Must be able to determine the difference between the colors of traffic lights.
• Able to hear a forced whisper at a distance of at least 5 feet.
• Blood pressure under 160/100.
• Blood sugar no higher than 200.
• No usage of habit forming drugs, amphetamines or narcotics.
• If a patient has a cardiac problem, such as heart failure, they need to have passed a stress test with a note from the provider stating they have no driving restrictions.
