Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) or Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are estimated to affect 19 million people each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Of these infections, approximately half are among young people ages 15-24 years. Although most often transmitted through sexual activity, they can also be passed through IV needles and/or skin-to-skin contact with an infected area.

Often times, sexually transmitted diseases have no symptoms and, therefore, they go undiagnosed and untreated. Failure to treat an STD can lead to severe health consequences. The only way to know for sure is to be tested.
