Can I Go Hiking and Enjoy Summertime, Even With COVID-19 Risks?

July 21, 2020

If you have been self-isolating for months, it may feel like the threat of the novel coronavirus will never really go away. Therefore, it is time that you calculate the risk and head out. Humans cannot stay in one place for a long time. At this point, many workers, parents, and families are evaluating mental health, social health, and other factors to determine a safe return to normal activities.

However, take notes as the government has told us to stop interacting, but not to stop having fun. You can enjoy various fun summertime activities without putting your health at risk.

The first thing you need to understand is that you cannot eliminate the risk of contracting the virus. Nonetheless, you can take a few steps to decrease the chances of getting the infection. It means you need to practice and get used to practicing COVID-19 safe activities.

Experts say that all activities are risky right now. However, you can take a few precautions by proactively minimizing the dangers of the virus.

The first crucial step in this measure is keeping a safe distance from everyone. Make sure that you are six-feet away from everybody.

Another precaution you need to take is to wear your facemask the entire time you are doing the activity. Make sure that the facemask is over your nose and mouth the whole time. It should not be sliding off. Make sure you are wearing your plastic gloves at all times. Because you know, you will be touching many surfaces. Even if you are wearing gloves, make sure that you wash your hands after every hour. After washing your hands, dry them off and put some hand sanitizer or a disinfecting spray on them.

Lastly, you need to know that outdoor activities pose a lesser risk of the virus than the indoor activities. Therefore, try not to dine in or play any indoor sport. Instead, head out and invest your time in hiking, go to a beach, or any outdoor activity your heart desires.

COVID-19 is still a dangerous virus, especially for older patients and similar patients that have compromised immune systems.  You might not know if you have the infection or not. Therefore, make sure that you test yourself for the virus if you come into contact with a place where you risk contracting the virus. Nevertheless, while you are out and you think someone is infected, make sure you get him or her to your nearest coronavirus testing facility.
