AFC Urgent Care San Diego in Clairemont, we can perform respirator physicals and fit tests in compliance with OSHA and the Department of Labor. Respirator physicals and fit test are recommended to be updated every one to two years, depending on respirator type, job type, the employee’s health status, environmental conditions, and other regulatory requirements.

A respirator physical, also known as respirator medical clearance, is a health assessment that determines if an employee is medically fit to wear a respirator on the job. OSHA requires a respirator medical evaluation before the initial respirator fit test. This evaluation helps to protect employees’ health at work and ensures workplace compliance with respiratory protection standards established by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Obtain Respiratory Clearance in Three Easy Steps:

1. The employee completes an OSHA Respirator Medical Evaluation Questionnaire.
2. A Licensed Medical Professionals reviews the questionnaire responses to determine if the employee has any symptoms or conditions that could undermine the effectiveness of a respirator.
3. If the employee receives respirator medical clearance, our staff will provide the employee and employer with a written medical opinion (WMO) for respirator use. Then, the employee undergoes a respirator fit test, if needed or requested.

NOTE: A respirator clearance only clears the employee to wear a respirator and the general type of respirator they can use.

RESPIRATOR FIT TESTING ONLY $75.00

Employees working in a position regulated by OSHA Respirator Standard CFR 1910.134 must complete a respirator fit test at least once a year, or whenever there is a change in the facepiece or there is any visual observation of changes in the employee’s physical condition that could affect respirator fit. Annual or more frequent tests ensure continuous protection against mask wear and tear and facial changes.

AFC Urgent Care San Diego has the ability to perform qualitative fit tests for half mask respirators. Employees must bring their own mask to our clinic for fit testing, or they must complete the fit test using a respirator that’s the same make, model, and size as one they will wear on the job while also wearing any other required equipment (e.g., glasses).
