Immigration Medical Examinations

Get Your Immigration Physical Exam Today

If you’re applying for U.S. citizenship or a green card, AFC Princess Anne Virginia Beach can provide the medical exam, testing and immunizations you need. No appointment is necessary, but we recommend calling ahead to schedule immigration exams to ensure the certified provider and immunizations are available. Be sure to bring a valid form of ID so that we can verify your identity and your Form I-693.

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) requires you to get a full immigration physical exam. This exam makes sure you don’t have physical issues or mental disorders that may prevent you from being approved. Our physicians understand that USCIC doctors must follow the government’s strict guidelines and procedures for your exam. You can rest assured that your forms and report will be done correctly.

Official USCIS Medical Exams by Immigration-Certified Doctors

Not all providers can perform immigration exams. Only physicians designated as civil surgeons by USCIS can complete an immigration physical, and AFC Princess Anne Virginia Beach has a certified USCIS civil surgeon onsite to handle the needs of applicants of all ages.

Our provider is U.S. Citizenship and Immigration (USCIS), and Department of Homeland Security registered and can therefore perform immigration physicals. All necessary immunizations and testing can be done in-house. If you are interested in this service, please bring the following with you to the center for your scheduled appointment:

  • Government Issued Photo ID
  • Form I-693
  • Medical records, if available
  • History of chickenpox
  • TB skin test results within the last year or any previous positive tests
  • Any chest x-rays from within the last year
  • Immunization records, if available
If you don’t have proof of your vaccinations, you can request a blood test to prove immunization

What to Expect at Your Immigration Physical Exam

At AFC Princess Anne Virginia Beach, your certified USCIS civil surgeon will order a chest X-ray and blood tests. Your physical and mental disposition will be assessed through X-rays, blood tests, and diagnostic observation.
Unlike a regular physical exam, immigration physicals are used mainly as a screening tool to check whether it is safe to allow a person into the United States. Certain medical conditions may require you to be placed in quarantine until you get better. Other conditions can bar you from admission to the United States, such as serious communicable diseases posing a public health threat.
AFC Princess Anne Virginia Beach offers the following tests and immunizations during an immigrant physical, including:

  • Syphilis blood test
  • Gonorrhea urine test
  • Flu vaccine
  • Diptheria vaccine
  • Pertussis vaccine
  • Mumps vaccine
  • Rubella vaccine
  • Meningococcal vaccine
  • Pneumococcal vaccine
  • Measles vaccine
  • Tetanus vaccine
  • Polio vaccine
  • Rotavirus vaccine
  • Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B vaccines
  • Varicella vaccine
*We recommend calling ahead to make sure vaccines are available.

What Does Full Immigration Exam Consist Of?

The full INS immigration exam is very simple and requires only four basic steps:

  • Basic immigration physical exam and mental status evaluation
  • Blood Test: Applicants age 15 and older must have a blood test for HIV (AIDS) and Syphilis (RPR). Applicants under age 15 may require HIV or syphilis testing at the discretion of the civil surgeon or if there is reason to suspect the possibility of infection. he Doctor will provide pre-test counseling to all applicants who take the HIV test. If you re found to have HIV infection, post-test counseling will be provided by AFC Princess Anne Virginia Beach as well.
  • Tuberculosis skin test: Applicants age two and older are required to have a tuberculin skin test (TST) performed. This test requires a return visit to the office within 48-72 hours after administration. If the test reading is greater than 5 mm of induration, a chest X-ray will be required. The cost of the X-ray is not included in the price of the immigration exam but can be scheduled through our office for an additional fee.
  • Proof of vaccinations or Blood Titer to prove immunity. Most adults require proof of vaccination for Tetanus-Diphtheria Td (within the last five years), Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella (Chickenpox). Blood Titer is a test that proves that a person has immunity or antibodies for a particular disease. The Immigration Doctor will review your vaccination history with you to determine whether you have all the required vaccinations. The cost of additional vaccinations is not included in the price of the basic exam, but they are offered through our office for an additional fee. Please bring all vaccination records to your scheduled appointment for the immigration physical at AFC Princess Anne Virginia Beach.

What Occurs After The Immigration Physical?

After the immigration physical examination is completed, the AFC Princess Anne Virginia Beach doctor will certify Form I-693 with the test results of the immigration exam and vaccination history and place the same within a sealed envelope to be presented to the INS. DO NOT OPEN THE SEALED ENVELOPE. Turn in the envelope with your immigration application. A copy of your blood test results will be provided for you to keep. The examination will only be valid up to a year after the immigration exam date. Click here to visit the Official US Citizen & Immigration Services website for more information.

After you receive your sealed envelope from your AFC Princess Anne Virginia Beach provider, you or your representative will present it to an immigration officer. Your results may be shared with certain U.S. health departments. Please note that medical examinations are generally valid for 12 months.
