Frequently Asked Questions About COVID-19 Diagnostic & Antibody Testing

Does AFC Urgent Care Northern Liberties offer COVID-19 testing?

Yes. AFC Urgent Care Northern Liberties offers COVID-19 diagnostic swab testing and antibody testing to patients in Northern Liberties, Fishtown, Old City, Kensington and the surrounding neighborhoods of Philadelphia. In order to be tested at our facility, patients are required to have a telemedicine screening with one of our providers to go over your symptoms and determine which test best fits your needs.

Should I get tested?

If you meet any of the following criteria, you should get tested for COVID-19:

  • You have exhibited symptoms of COVID-19 in the last fourteen days.
  • You have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.
  • You have previously exhibited symptoms of COVID-19 and are unsure if it was the virus.

What is the difference between antibody and diagnostic testing?

Diagnostic NAA testing is performed by taking a gentle swab of the lower nasal cavity and detects the active virus. Swab testing is available for patients who have been exhibiting symptoms of the virus or have been exposed to someone who has tested positive. You do not have to be symptomatic to get tested. Antibody testing is performed via a blood draw and only on patients who have been asymptomatic for at least fourteen days, or have had at least fourteen day pass since their previous positive COVID-19 test. Antibody testing can not detect the active virus and should only be used to detect past infection with COVID-19.

Why should I be tested for the COVID-19 virus or antibodies?

By getting tested, you will be able to know whether or not you have come into contact with the virus over the last several months whether or not you have experienced symptoms. Testing also helps local communities and states determine correct patient count when determining the spread of the virus.

How can I schedule COVID-19 testing?

Prior to visiting our center for COVID-19 testing, you must have a telemedicine visit to be screened by a member of our staff. Our physician will be able to go over your symptoms and determine if you should get tested for the active virus (outside of the center) or the antibody (inside the center).

AFC Urgent Care FAQs

  • Why choose AFC for Urgent Care?

With state-of-the-art centers and a professional medical team, AFC provides on-site X-rays, labs, procedures, and more!

  • What's the difference between AFC Urgent Care and emergency room services?

Urgent care is for medical conditions that require prompt attention but do not pose an immediate threat to your health or life. Here is a simple rule of thumb: if your medical issues(s) are life threatening, call 911, or go directly to a hospital emergency room. If not, an urgent care center such as AFC is an excellent alternative.
