Streptococcal pharyngitis, or more commonly “strep throat,” is an infection that affects the tonsils as well as the larynx. This is most common in children aged 5 though 15 but it can affect any age.

One of its main symptoms is a sore throat. However, not all sore throats are strep throat. Other symptoms include swollen tonsils, swollen lymph nodes, and fever. If someone experiences any of these symptoms, they should consult a doctor and receive a throat culture or rapid antigen test.

Typically, strep throat is cured with Antibiotics. Pain relievers can be used to alleviate symptoms.
