As temperatures plunge into dangerous territory, hitting unexpected extremes even for February, we at AFC want to remind you that cold weather comes with its own set of dangers.

Two of the most common winter dangers when temperatures hit extreme lows are frostbite and hypothermia. Frostbite can occur on your nose, ears, toes and fingers.

Symptoms of frostbite can include:

  • Grayish-yellow or white skin
  • Hard, waxy feel to the area
  • Symptoms are common to burns on the skin

Hypothermia occurs when the body cannot keep itself warm and its internal temperature falls below 95 degrees.

Symptoms of hypothermia include:

  • Uncontrolled shivering
  • Poor muscle control
  • Confusion
  • Exhaustion

If left untreated, both frostbite and hypothermia can lead to extensive damage to your body. If you have any further questions regarding symptoms of frostbite and hypothermia, call us today at 508-658-0764!
