Men’s Health Month: It’s Time To Put Your Health First, Man!

June 1, 2022

Men are notorious for putting their health last on their priority list. You may think you’re fine, or don’t need a checkup, but we hate to break it to you, man, but men’s health is important! There are a lot of health concerns that are specific to men's health that are often overlooked. Some of these include prostate cancer, heart disease, and testicular cancer. It's important for men to be aware of these health risks so that they can take the necessary steps to protect themselves.

In light of Men's health month, AFC Urgent Care Danbury is here to help guide men to learn more about these health risks so they can avoid them and live a longer and healthier life. It’s time to put your health first, man!

Men’s Health Issues Can Become More Problematic With Age

Here are the most common health issues men face with age:

  • Heart disease
  • Testicular Cancer
  • Prostate Cancer
  • Diabetes
  • High Blood Pressure
  • High Cholesterol
  • Loss of Testosterone

Men are often predisposed to these major health threats at a young age making it more problematic when they get older. This is why you shouldn’t avoid the doctor’s office and to make more appointments to get checked more often.

Heart disease and diabetes are the major threats to worry about as they can often lead to heart attacks and strokes, as well as organ failures. High blood pressure and unmanaged high cholesterol are the issues that usually lead up to the previous two. Prostate cancer and testicular cancer are very specific to men and usually can be avoided by going to the doctor’s office and performing self-checks more often.

Men Also Need To Watch Out For Accidental Injuries And Illnesses At The Workplace

It’s a time to consider health and safety in the workplace and to ensure you’re wearing safety gear when out on the job. According to a 2021 update on workplace injuries, men are more likely than women (60% compared to 40%) to miss work due to a workplace illness and injury.

In light of health and safety month, we encourage men to take extra precautions, like wearing safety gear, not overexerting themselves, and being more careful on dangerous jobs like roofing, driving, logging, and other jobs in the private sector.
