AFC Suffolk Offers Drive Thru Testing for COVID-19
In order to maintain the highest level of healthcare while serving the great community of Suffolk, VA and surrounding areas, the AFC Urgent Care Suffolk is pleased to offer drive thru testing for COVID-19 on Saturdays and Sundays from 9am-3pm, or until supplies last. If you feel unwell or suspect you have been exposed to or have symptoms of COVID-19, you may come to AFC Urgent Care in Suffolk for a test. This drive thru testing service requires no prescreening. We will test everyone who comes to be tested. AFC Urgent Care Suffolk has successfully handled positive COVID-19 cases, all with positive outcomes to date.
How Much Does this COVID-19 Test Cost?
For patients who are currently insured, along with Medicare and Medicaid patients, the examination and test copay is waived and we will submit the bill to insurance. For uninsured patients, the fee is $150 for the office visit and $50 for the test. The $50 test fee goes directly to LabCorp, the laboratory that is processing the tests.
When Will I Get My Results?
The test results are usually available within 48 hours; however, it depends on LabCorp. The drive thru test is not a rapid test, as they are not yet widely available.
I Thought COVID-19 Testing Was Free, Why is There a Charge?
AFC Urgent Care Suffolk’s drive thru testing service is private testing. Government testing is free. We have also partnered with the City of Suffolk. When the City starts testing, we will be a testing site and that will be free.
When Will the City Start Free Testing?
There is no current update as to when government testing will start, and it depends on when the City thinks it is necessary. When City testing starts at AFC Suffolk, the City will REQUIRE you to be prescreened, so NOT EVERYONE will be tested. Right now, with private testing, we WILL TEST EVERYONE until we run out of supplies for the day.
Why Test Now?
The City has indicated that we are now approaching an upswing in reported cases and AFC Suffolk wants to be ahead of that major curve before it hits.
Does AFC Suffolk Offer Antibody Testing?
Antibody testing is not yet available, but it will be coming soon.
Is AFC Suffolk Still Open During the Week?
Yes. We are pleased to say that we are open as usual for patients with urgent care needs. The COVID-19 mass testing is only offered on Saturdays and Sundays, and until supplies last.
Does AFC Suffolk Accept My Insurance?
We accept all major insurance plans, along with Medicare and Medicaid. Tricare: If you are the sponsor of your Tricare plan, you must obtain a referral before coming to AFC. If you are the dependent, you do not need a referral.
