Veterans Affairs (VA) Community Care Program in North Colorado Springs, CO

Starting June 6th, the Mission Act grants US Military Veterans greater access to timely, high-quality care within VA’s new Community Care Network. Eligible veterans in the North Colorado Springs area can use AFC Urgent Care without a prior VA authorization for covered services.

How Veterans Receive Care at AFC Urgent Care in North Colorado Springs

1. Veteran self-presents the AFC Urgent Care front desk.
2. Urgent care staff confirms eligibility by asking for the Veteran’s: Last four digits of SSN, Date of birth (DOB), VA Medical Center (VAMC), and home address.
3. The clinic calls TriWest (1-833-4VETNOW (1-833-483-8669)) and uses the Veteran’s SSN and DOB to confirm eligibility.
4. Once confirmed, the urgent care provider treats the Veteran.

After the Veteran leaves, the clinic submits medical documentation to the Veteran’s VAMC and submits the claim to WPS Military and Veterans Health (WPS MVH).

Care for Non-Covered Veterans (Alternative Coverage Options)

If a Veteran is found not to be covered under the VA Community Care Program, the clinic will work to find alternative coverage options such as Medicare, TRICARE, TRICARE for Life, Medicaid, or other private insurance plans.
