Most Common Types of Headaches and Their Symptoms

Before we treat your headaches, we first need to determine what type it is. Here are some of the most common chronic headaches that people suffer from:

  • Migraines: These headaches are recognizable because they can be extremely painful and throbbing. They can last anywhere from between a few hours and a few days, happening chronically (usually a few times per month). They are often accompanied by other symptoms such as sensitivity to light, nausea, or stomach pain.
  • Tension: Tension headaches are probably the most common type of headache, causing moderate pain but subsiding relatively quickly. There are no other symptoms associated with tension headaches.
  • Cluster: Cluster headaches are probably the most painful headaches one can have. They're characterized by burning and/or piercing pain behind one or both eyes. They usually happen a few times per day, for a few hours at a time, which can last up to a few months -- hence the name "cluster".

AFC Urgent Care FAQs

  • Why Choose American Family Care?

With state-of-the-art centers and a professional medical team, AFC provides on-site X-rays, labs, procedures, and more!

  • What's the Difference Between Urgent Care and Emergency Room Services?

Urgent care is for medical conditions that require prompt attention but do not pose an immediate threat to your health or life. Here is a simple rule of thumb: if your medical issues(s) are life threatening, call 911, or go directly to a hospital emergency room. If not, an urgent care center such as AFC is an excellent alternative.
