Pediatric Sports | AFC Urgent Care of Huntersville, NC

Participation in organized sports is on the rise, but unfortunately, so are sports injuries. AFC Urgent Care and walk-in clinic in Huntersville, NC is committed to providing superior doctor-supervised care in the case of sports injuries.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 2.6 million children up to the age of 19 receive emergency care for sports and recreation-related activities.

“Playing sports is an effective and practical way to fight childhood obesity, build self-confidence, and learn teamwork,” said Dr. Todd Rudolph, Medical Director at AFC Urgent Care. “However,” he added, “with sports comes a heightened risk of injury. Knowing basic safety procedures can help prevent injury in children and adolescents.”

Although the nature of sports and other recreation-related activities lends itself to accidents, the risk can be reduced by:

• Wearing properly fitted gear: Pads and helmets are not affective unless they fit the child properly.

• Paying attention to weather: Appropriate hydration and dress are important.

• Being a role model: Demonstrate the importance of safety to your children.

While there are some things you can do prevent a broken bone and promote healing after one occurs, there is a possibility that a broken bone is something your child could face.

AFC Urgent Care treats a wide array of sports injuries and administers sports physical at our Huntersville, NC location. To be seen by a doctor today, please stop by any of our East NC locations. No appointment is needed.
