Immigration Physicals FAQ in Englewood at AFC Urgent Care

Information about Immigration Physicals in Englewood

”Can any Doctor in the U.S. perform an Immigration Physical as required by the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services?”

No, only a licensed US Civil Surgeon who has been authorized by the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services to conduct Immigration Physicals and Immigration Exams for the Department of Homeland Security may perform the Immigration Physical.

”What basic services and procedures are included within the Immigration Physical?”

The basic Immigration Physical includes the following:

  • Basic Physical Examination
  • Required Blood work
  • Vaccination status verification
  • Copies of your laboratory results
  • Certified and Sealed I-693 Form

Please note that there may be additional services required (such as required vaccinations and follow-up chest x-ray for TB testing) that are available from or can be arranged by our clinic if needed.

”What do I need to bring with me to the Immigration Physical?”

Please ensure that you bring the following items to your Immigration Physical:

  • Valid, government issued picture ID or passport (preferred).
  • Proof of prior vaccinations.
  • Alien Registration number if you have one (starts with an 'A')
  • Bring your passport, work authorization card, and any paperwork from the immigration service. Bring documentation of your Alien Registration Number (A-Number) (if any) and your USCIS Online Account number (if any).

You will also be required to fill out a complete patient information sheet.

”What if my immunization records are from a foreign country and in a foreign language?”

If you have any immunization records, whether American or from your home country, please bring them in. It is best to have them translated to English, but we will try to interpret them. We will try and apply all applicable immunization records, even foreign records to your INS immunizations requirements.

”What is comprised within the actual Immigration Physical examination?”

The full INS immigration exam is very simple and requires only 4 basic steps and two office visits as follows:

  1. Basic immigration physical exam and mental status evaluation (exam sometimes may be performed on the second visit)
  2. Applicants age 2 and over will have blood testing requirements. Specific testing will be discussed on your first visit.
  3. TB blood testing is required for all applicants 2 years and older. If the blood test is abnormal then an x-ray will be required and referral to a TB management center.
  4. Vaccination status will be reviewed (an information sheet will be given to you on your first visit).

”What occurs after the Immigration Physical?”

After the immigration physical examination is completed, the Doctor will certify Form I-693 with the test results of the immigration exam and vaccination history and place the same within a sealed envelope to be presented to the INS. DO NOT OPEN THE SEALED ENVELOPE. Turn in the envelope with your immigration application. A copy of your blood tests results will be provided for you to keep after results have been discussed with the examining doctor. The examination will only be valid up to a year after the immigration exam date. Click here to visit the Official US Citizen & Immigration Services website for more information.

”What happens to the Immigration Physical test results?”

Your results will be presented to an immigration officer by either yourself or by your representative. Your results may be shared with certain U.S. health departments. Please note that medical examinations are generally valid for 12 months.

”If I have a health plan, will it cover these services?”

Most health plans do not cover these services. You need to pay us directly and we can provide you with the formal insurance forms so you can attempt to bill them yourself. Some of our clients do get reimbursed, but we can’t guarantee it.

Please find below helpful links to applicable U.S. Government Citizen and immigration web sites, application instructions, applicable forms etc.

Please call the clinic to make an appointment for your Immigration Physical, this ensures that the certified Civil Surgeon Doctor is available. Please allow approximately an hour to complete the physical exam.
