Get Protection for the Upcoming Flu Season
Flu season typically starts around early fall and lasts until late spring. To protect yourself from seasonal strains of the flu, it’s recommended that everyone receive an annual flu shot.
At AFC Urgent Care Englewood, we provide seasonal flu shots to protect you for the upcoming flu season! Even the healthiest of us need a seasonal flu shot, but it’s especially recommended that the following individuals receive their annual flu shot:
- Children over 6 months of age
- The Elderly / Seniors
- Pregnant Women
- Individuals with Chronic Health Conditions such as Asthma
Getting your seasonal flu shot is your best defense against contracting the flu. Patients cannot contract the flu from the flu vaccine since it is made from a weakened or inactivated form of the virus.

Flu shots are a great way to protect yourself against flu strains likely to be prevalent this year. They only take a few seconds to administer, and they can keep you and your family from missing school or work due to illness – not to mention they protect against some of the more dangerous side effects of the flu.
Good Candidate for a Flu Shot
Anyone who wants to avoid the flu is an excellent candidate to receive a flu shot. We’ll go over the details when you stop in. A few examples of people who love taking advantage of our flu vaccines include:
- Those with elderly relatives may be especially susceptible to the flu.
- People who know it will be difficult to miss work or school because of the flu.
- Anyone who hates getting sick!
Make sure you ask your provider about any potential allergies or special healthcare needs before getting your flu shot. While the majority of patients should get vaccinated, a few patients may not be eligible for a flu shot.
Who should NOT get a flu vaccine?
While it’s rare, there are people who should not get a flu vaccine or need to consult their physician first. Infants under 6 months old and people with life-threatening allergies to common vaccine ingredients should NOT get a flu shot.
Consult with your doctor about getting a flu vaccine if you have any of the following illnesses:
- Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS)
- Egg Allergy (There are alternative vaccines for those with egg allergies)
- Severe Allergic Reactions to Previous Flu Vaccines
If you feel sick, wait until you feel back to normal to receive a flu shot or consult with a physician.
