Wound Care Specialist in Easley, SC

Wounds are a fairly common infliction and can be caused by a wide array of different injuries. While most wounds can heal on their own by being cleaned and covered properly, more severe wounds require close medical attention and should not be ignored. If you have a serious wound, seek the attention of a medical professional immediately, or come to AFC Urgent Care today!

What can I expect at a wound care center?

Your healing program at the wound care center will often begin with a referral from your primary care physician, although this is not always the case. Once there, you will undergo a thorough diagnostic examination to identify your wound, complications from the wound, and any underlying problems causing your wound. Your initial appointment will help determine the classification and size of your wound, your overall health and ability to comply with necessary treatments, and ultimately, a treatment plan.

What is the quickest way to heal an open wound?

There are several steps you can take to help heal your open wounds faster. Please note that these steps are merely suggestions and do not replace the need for professional health care attention. A few things you can do to help speed up the process are:

Wash Your Hands — To prevent bacterial infections, ensure you wash your hands thoroughly before treating a wound.

Clean The Wound — After stopping the bleeding, wipe any dirt from the wound with a clean cotton cloth or organic cotton balls and salt water.

Apply Heat — To increase blood flow to the skin and to help speed up healing, you can apply heat to the wound. Put a heating pad on the wound or place the area in a bucket of warm water for about 15 – 30 minutes.

Eat Healthy — To help the body heal itself quicker, ensure you eat the right dosage of power foods; including protein, Vitamin C, D, E, Omega-3 and magnesium. This includes dark green, leafy vegetables, orange and yellow vegetables, bell peppers, tomatoes, meats and dairy.

Use Aloe Vera — Aloe Vera helps with all kinds of skin problems, including bruises and cuts. The gel of Aloe Vera can be purchased from a pharmacy or extracted from a fresh plant. To do this, first remove the thorns, cut the plant in half and apply on the skin. Keep it in place with a plaster.

If these steps do not help heal your wound faster, or your wound will not heal completely, contact a health care professional immediately or come to AFC Urgent Care.

Do wounds heal faster covered or uncovered?

Contrary to popular belief, an uncovered wound does not heal faster than a covered one. Covering a wound helps contain the natural moisture that is needed to keep the skin cells alive. Often, doctors will also encourage the use of a topical antibiotic ointment to keep the area moist, which can also reduce infection. Additionally, the covering that a bandage or dressing provides also protects the area from exposure to dirt and germs and can prevent further injury or irritation from occurring.

Covering your wound offers protection and comfort, and on less severe wounds, proper dressing doesn’t even require assistance from a medical professional.

If you or someone you know has recently sustained a wound, it requires special care in order to heal properly. If it is severe, it is important to seek medical attention immediately. AFC Urgent Care FAQs

  • Why choose AFC for Urgent Care?

With state-of-the-art centers and a professional medical team, AFC provides on-site X-rays, labs, procedures, and more!

  • What's the difference between AFC Urgent Care and emergency room services?

Urgent care is for medical conditions that require prompt attention but do not pose an immediate threat to your health or life. Here is a simple rule of thumb: if your medical issue(s) are life threatening, call 911, or go directly to a hospital emergency room. If not, an urgent care center such as AFC is an excellent alternative.
