Travel Medicine at AFC Urgent Care

Medical preparation for travel is increasingly important. Not only are there more serious health risks present around the world, but there is more available for prevention and treatment. Opportunities for prevention should not be overlooked by any traveler, regardless of destination.

AFC Urgent Care of North Carolina offers immunizations for many types of diseases. To expedite your care, AFC Urgent Care has set up an on-line questionnaire for you to complete prior to your visit. Your North Carolina AFC Urgent Care physician will then customize an immunization program for you based on the information you provide and can help you assemble the medications necessary that will help protect you against malaria, food and water borne diarrhea illness, and motion sickness.

AFC Urgent Care FAQs

  • How soon before I travel should I get vaccinated?

It's important to get vaccinated at least 4 to 6 weeks before you travel. This time frame will give the vaccines time to start working, so you're protected while away from home. It will also usually ensure there’s enough time for you to get fully vaccinated for those that require more than 1 dose.

  • What diseases should I be vaccinated for?

The vaccines you need to get before traveling will depend on a few things, including where you plan to travel, your health, and what vaccines you’ve already had. Your local AFC medical professional can advise you on what you may need and when.

  • Will my insurance cover travel medicine?

Some plans do, and some don't, so it's important to check with your insurance provider. AFC centers offer affordable services that are often far less expensive than a visit to a doctor’s office or emergency room.
