What Month Is Allergy Season?
That is a trick question! Many of us wonder if allergy season ever ends. While there might be some times of the year that are better than others when it comes to seasonal allergies, we are definitely not entering one of those times.
Early fall seems to be one of the harder months when it comes to seasonal allergies. Fortunately, our team at AFC Urgent Care Southcenter is here to help you with prevention and treatment tips so that you can live your best days without suffering with seasonal allergies.
How Long Do Seasonal Allergies Last?
When allergies arise, the symptoms seem to appear all at once. Allergy symptoms, once they begin, can last as long as the allergen is present.
Therefore, it is important to be aware of what is causing your allergy symptoms (like pollen) to know what to avoid to eliminate allergens.
- Runny nose
- Stuffy nose
- Watery eyes
- Itchy eyes
- Itchy sinuses, throat or ear canals
- Ear congestion
- Postnasal drainage
How Can I Prevent Allergies?
The best treatment plan is prevention when it comes to seasonal allergies. If possible, try avoiding triggers whenever possible. When pollen counts are high, wear a mask while working outside to help reduce symptoms.
When you come home for the day, be sure to take a shower, wash your hair and change your clothes. That way you are not continuing to breathe in the pollen while at home.
Treatment Plans for Allergies
- Try an over-the-counter antihistamine.
- Use an OTC or prescription nasal spray.
- Take immunotherapy tablets, if prescribed.
