We will close at 5pm on Monday, May 30 in observance of Memorial Day.
In our continuing effort to protect patients and staff, we strongly suggest patients with COVID-like symptoms schedule a telecare/video visit before coming to the center. However, we will see patients with COVID-like symptoms in-office as well. Please note that if you have any COVID- or flu-like symptoms, testing is medically necessary even if you have completed an at-home test or a lab test elsewhere. Thank you for your understanding.

Physicals are an important part of life. They help determine our health and readiness to participate in group activities like sports. It is not only important for the participation in school activities, but also in the establishment of our children’s health. If your child needs a sports physical, come to AFC Urgent Care today!
A sports physical, known in the medical field as a pre-participation physical examination (PPE), helps to determine whether or not a child (or adult) is physically able to participate in a sport safely. Additionally, anyone starting a new exercise routine or sport should always first discuss it with a healthcare professional, and sports physicals offer an easy way to do so.
It’s important to note that a sports physical does not take the place of a regular annual checkup or physical because a sports physical focuses on health history that may have a direct impact on a child’s ability to play a sport. While a sports physical does typically cover much of what happens during an annual physical or exam, it’s still important to schedule a separate annual checkup for your little one in addition to any physicals that may be required for participation in sports.
School physicals are performed at many health care facilities, including AFC Urgent Care! We have several different locations, including one here in Powdersville, SC!
A good way to prepare for a sports physical is to make sure that your child is wearing comfortable clothes, so they can move around as needed. You and your child should also be ready to answer questions about your family medical history and personal health history.
It is important that you mention any previous injuries or conditions, including when the injuries occurred, what treatments your child underwent and which physician cared for your child. It is also important to provide a detailed family medical history, so you can give your child’s examiner a complete picture of their health.
Your child should also be encouraged to be honest when giving their answers to questions during the exam. If athletes are scared, they may not be cleared to play, they might be untruthful about their health and put themselves at risk of injury.
Different examiners may perform sports physicals disparately from one another. However, they will always include a conversation about your medical history and a physical exam.
Your provider will want to know about your health, your family’s health, your medical problems, and what medicines you take.
The physical examination is much the same to an annual checkup, but with some added things that relate to playing sports. The provider will focus on the health of your lungs, heart, bones, and joints. Your provider may:
